Something amazing happened to me yesterday. Well, it was amazing to me.
See, I have had bronchitis. I went to the doctor on Monday and he diagnosed me with bronchitis and a sinus infection. But the bronchitis was the worst. I was coughing uncontrollably, couldn’t take a deep breath and my chest hurt.
I stayed home from work yesterday because the doctor recommended resting for a day to let the antibiotics start working. He said I would be coughing for two or three more weeks and I would feel very tired for several weeks, but with the medication I should feel better and be better within several weeks.
He told me to just take it easy and not to push myself. My low energy level meant that my body was healing.
Well, yesterday I was feeling really bad, went through a whole box of tissues in just a few hours. I was out of sinus medication and I wanted a root beer. So I dragged myself out of bed and drove the couple of blocks to CVS. I had to wait until I was due to take my next dose of cough meds (nasty, vile stuff) because it makes me loopy and I did not want to drive with it in my system.
I got to CVS, asked the pharmacist which sinus medication I could safely take with the cough medicine, picked up more tissues and got my root beer. Then a woman came up to me and complimented me on my skirt. I thanked her and she started talking to me.
Now, if you know me, you know I am not the best communicator. I am real good at listening, though (I have to so I can keep up with the conversation – I have a lot of trouble processing verbal communication). Within a few minutes, she was telling me about her teenage son and problems she was having in her family.
I told her I would pray for her and her family and that the hardest lesson God teaches us is letting go of the things that bind us (I have NO CLUE where those words came from).
Then she started crying and talking to me more and more. We talked about God, how He can solve anything and how sometimes we have to go through things that are hurtful because He has lessons for us. I told her that He has big plans for her, all she has to do is ober and submit herself to Him.
She agreed and said she could feel that. We talked about scripture and about how Jesus can heal us and how we can use our adverse experiences to help others. She has a great heart for helping others.
I invited her to my church and told her that if she wanted me to, I would meet her in the parking lot or anywhere and come to church with her so she wouldn’t have to walk in alone. We traded numbers.
We talked for two hours.
Toward the end of our conversation, I started to get really hot. It was not a “hot flash” cause I don’t get those anymore. Plus, it was a different kind of hot, not like a usual hot. It was like my skin was hot but nothing else, then it was hot in my chest and I started sweating, really sweating.
I think she was very hot too because her skin got real shiny and I could see sweat on her forehead and neck.
Then she said that she had come in for pain medication because she was really hurting bad from an injury, but as we had been talking the pain had gone away.
When I got in the car, I realized that I had not coughed the entire time I talked to her, even though I was three hours past due for my medicine. My chest did not hurt and I could take deep breaths.
I called my husband and he was amazed at how much better I sounded. He said it was completely different from how I sounded that morning. I had talked to my mother before I went and I called her again when I got home (to check on her, her little dog got run over by a car – he was at the vet). She was amazed at how much better I sounded. She didn’t even recognize me!
I did not ask God to heal me, but He did. For whatever reason, while I stood there and mostly listened to the woman, while I talked to her with words that I know were not my own, when I hugged her, He healed me. I feel fantastic, no fatigue, no coughing, no pain, nothing.
GOD IS GOOD!
