I recently saw a question posed to the members of a forum for Christian Aspies. The person asked if God created Asperger’s or if we are some type of corruption from the “norm.”
I have heard many people ask variations of this question over the years and it is a great one. However, I don’t believe that the answer is so black and white.
The question itself implies that what is considered by society to be “normal” is actually God’s normal. I personally do not believe that it is. I don’t believe that God ever intended for society’s accepted normal to be what was normal for man.
See, when sin was brought into the picture it began to corrupt every cell of every human that existed and that followed. God’s intended normal was present in Adam and Eve prior to the fall. After that, it was a steady decline. What we are now are corrupted versions of what God originally intended so that even society’s “normal” isn’t even normal.
I will go even further to say that many forms of Asperger’s such as the honesty, adherence to rules, conviction when a rule is broken (sin), and even sensory processing issues actually seem more in line with scripture.
In the garden man was not exposed to the overwhelming sensory input. In fact, man began in an agrarian society where people farmed, planted crops and lived off of the land. Life was perfect.
When sin entered the scene man began to degrade. NO ONE is normal, at least by God’s originally intended normal, any more.
So, did God create Asperger’s? I believe that He created ME. He created Aspies. He created all of us, but the corruption of sin is NOT His doing. And there are many, many shades of that corruption. In that respect, Aspies and “normal” people are on the same spectrum.

Some people do believe that, but God still has His hand in everything.
I personally do not believe that vaccinations cause autism. I have seen too much evidence to the contrary.

It seems to me a lot more likely that man put us in this predicament, rather than that God created such an aberration. Agreed that God can use anything. He gave me Leviticus 20:26 (KJV) “And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.”

True. However, this is still assuming that society’s “normal” is God’s normal – and it isn’t.
God’s normal does not exist in this world because of sin. This actually puts Aspies and so-called “normal” people on the same spectrum.
It also means that Asperger’s is not so abnormal or an aberration after all.
Just because we have difficulty functioning in this sin sick population of “normal” people does not mean we are wrong or don’t belong. It just means that the whole thing is messed up and God did not create this “normal.”

I read “A Field Guide to Earthlings” by Ian Ford, an Aspie, which explains normal people to us. It actually made them sound a little bit sad. They automatically categorize everything so that they do not have to do that manually, as we do. They seem to need more approval than we do, in order to act, which they tend to refuse to do until they can get verification from someone else. I believe God made most people’s brain that way since the normal brain is more efficient. We, of course, have many strengths they don’t have. The scientific definition of “normal” simply means that most people are that way. Frankly, I think they are afraid of people who are not like them. What appalls me is Aspies who do not believe in God. How CAN we, who need Him so much, refuse Him?

I agree. That confounds me as well. We do need Him so very much.
I have seen Aspies who have come to Christ, though. Thanks to our logical mind, if you present an Aspie with good evidence for God’s existence they an become believers.

Also, God still desires [and Jesus died for] our core being, sans the sin. That tells me that it still may possess its original glory, once the sin contamination is resolved.

He died for our sins so we don’t have to pay that horrible price, and yes, when we experience New Birth He erases our sins from His memory. However, that does not mean that we do not still bear the consequences of that sin. It also does not mean that we stop sinning.
The Bible says that the heart is inherently wicked. We were born into sin and it is integrated into our very core. We can’t separate from it but we can be saved from it.
So even though we may have had the New Birth we still struggle with sin and its consequences.

And since we Aspires pay attention to details, maybe we simply notice negative reactions from fallen human beings which normal-brained people automatically block out. So maybe we feel rejected because we notice negative reactions toward ourselves. But maybe those same reactions are there for everyone, the fallen human condition being what it is. Perhaps normally-brained people merely live in blissful ignorance.

I definitely agree with you on that. I believe we pick up on things that so-called normal people miss.
We can’t read the cues but we pick up on a lot.

We are “fearfully and wonderfully made!” Perfect in our experiences of imperfections. Made to be collectively the helpmate of The Almighty — Who creates entire Creations!
Whatever experiences He allows us, whether as non-typicals, or simply going through the waxing and waning of aging — we learn compassion for others and for His creatures. As Christ, He did not avoid such overcomings, and He carries us through them likewise.
We were made for such time as this. When information abounds and is shouted from the rooftops, while the exponential increase of artifice and technology beckons with the same old seduction — “you shall not surely die … you shall be as gods.” Yet in my physical form I am made frail, ephemeral as jelly fish, lost to the winds of time as a butterfly turning to dust on wing. And in this our Creator’s hand is seen — for without Him we are nothing.
But we are more than mere physical form or social beings. We each have body, soul, and spirit. Paul (the apostle) gave us, by way of inspiration, that we have a natural body and a spiritual body. John relates the revelations — Christ is The Vine and we are His branches … which is not a physical reality, but possibly hyper-real and multidimensional. By way of the Holy Ghost we are the extensions and offspring of God. He has seen fit to give Himself such crown, cloak, and wings.
I am content in my conditions. Where I’m weak, Y’shua is strong (whether called Jesus Christ, Yeshua Messiah, Son of God, or The Lamb Slain). He did not disdain be seen as slain. Let it be unto me to be what He has made me to be — or allowed me to be — whether in permanent or passing experience, come by chance or design.
I am content to sit at His feet and to lean into His breast. He has blessed me in all these oddities with an exquisite sense of His presence. Wherever I’ve gone, whether turned from Him in questings or snatched close in rescue — I know His eye is on me and ear attuned to my weeping. He has never left me, nor forsaken me, and is ever there to embrace me.
And in that time soon coming — when we see Him face to face — the promise is that we shall be like Him when He comes. I yield then to His Way and The Master’s Hands. This is the day and the life He has given me as a tapestry — and a puzzle — of exquisite colors and cloak of many colors.
ASD for me is a gift. Blessed is the Name of The Lord.

I have Aspergers and as hard as what life is, it isn’t hard because I’m different. It’s hard to the extent I compare myself to society’s expectations of me. So I’ve learned to accept myself as me, and accept myself as the perfect representation of Gods inention for my life. I’m unique and only flawed when compared to anything other than myself, only because I’m unable to be anything other than me. My journey has taught me to sharpen my skills and understand but not dwell on my faults. God intended me to be ready and able to be me when He needs me, and that makes me a vessel fit for His purose, id sure like to see anyone fill my shoes the way I do, they’d seem kinda flawed to me…..no pun intended…..

It is interesting that you would say that. I have had several neurotypicals say the same thing.
I don’t know; it is something to think about. Makes a lot of sense.
