The late Howard Cosell is credited with saying, “What’s right isn’t always popular. What’s popular isn’t always right.” This is what God chose to lay on my heart this morning. I let it stay there in my head for a while, until I realized that this was just a glimpse of what he was actually giving me, sort of like lifting just the corner of a veil covering a massive painting.

What is God’s will isn’t always pleasing to us. What is pleasing to us isn’t always God’s will.

There was no toying with words to get the style and rhythm and meaning just right, God just handed it to me and I knew what I would be writing about today.

James 4:3-4

3You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

4You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Sometimes we are asking for the wrong things and looking through the wrong eyes. Our motives and priorities are all messed up. God does not want us to be of this world, but set apart from it.

Sometimes, it may not be popular, it may not be pleasing to us, but it is God’s will and it is RIGHT.

When we are in tune with God through knowledge of His word and are operating in the spirit, we not only hear His voice, we know it.

Then it is up to us to decide how we will exercise our free will. There is always a choice; even it is the choice to do nothing.

But is we are obedient and stop listening to those voices of the flesh and tune in to God, we will never, ever be guided in the wrong direction. It is the ultimate submission, the complete giving up of self, but to follow in His will is so worth it.

Many blessings come with obedience and submission to God. He honors these qualities in us where many humans will only take advantage and manipulate us through them. He is the ONLY ONE who has our best interests at heart.

24Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ~ Matthew 16:24

We can’t just pick and choose which parts of ourselves we want God to change, the parts we want to surrender to Him. We must surrender all to Him.

Have you surrendered all to Him? Or are there still some vestiges of this world that you are still clinging to?
